What programmatic advertising is
Programmatic advertising is the practice of buying and selling ad inventory in real time. When a person opens a webpage, scrolls a social feed, or starts a streaming show, an automated auction runs in the background to decide which ad they see, who places it, and what it costs. The whole auction takes about a tenth of a second.
Almost every modern paid ad you see is bought this way. Google Ads is programmatic. Meta is programmatic. Streaming TV ads are programmatic. The word describes the buying mechanism, not a single channel.
